May 29: Man commences 100-kilometre trekking in Yobe

A middle-aged Saidu Abubakar has commenced an endurance trekking from Potiskum town in honour of Yobe State Governor-elect, Mai Mala Buni who will be sworn in tomorrow.

The trekker who commenced his journey on foot yesterday and heading to Damaturu, has so far covered more than 60 kilometres and is expected to be received by some APC chieftains, supporters and stalwarts on arrival today.

DAILY POST Correspondent stumbled on Saidu who said his decision to defied the scorching sun during the month of Ramadan was out of love for the Governor-elect.

“I have embarked on the foot journey out of love for the incoming Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

“I have started the trekking since yesterday, Monday, at exactly 12 pm and I hope to reach Damaturu today, Tuesday in order to witness the swearing-in of Mai Mala Buni,” Abubakar stated.

Dressed in APC regalia, Saidu Abubakar carries along with him a multi-coloured stick and a bag hung on his shoulder. He said his curiosity will only be gratified if he witnesses the swearing in tomorrow and that the effort was not for profit making.

According to him, he earlier had a stopover in Damagun, the home of the state Deputy Governor-elect, Idi Barde Gubana.
