The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has threatened to get the Police involved, as investigation of the two matches that produced an incredible 146 goals continues.
Two Amateur League games involving Plateau United Feeders and Akurba FC and another between Police Machine and Babayaro FC, produced 146 goals – Plateau Feeders and Police Machine won 79-0 and 67-0 respectively.
Emeka Inyama, the chairman of the NFF media and publicity committee, labelled the incident as a national embarrassment, while speaking to newsmen yesterday and stated that anyone found guilty, will be punished.
“It is a shame, it is annoying, it is criminal, it is a scandal, it is ridiculous. It has dealt Nigeria and Nigerian football a devastating blow. And we are going to punish those found to have a hand in this ugly, embarrassing incident… We’re still investigating. Maybe, the Police might be brought in.” he said.
A member of the NFF Disciplinary and Organising Committee, Mike Umeh, also told Vanguard, that his committee is still waiting for the match commissioner’s match report, before it can take any action.
Umeh said: “We are yet to get the report but I can assure you that every individual involved in those matches; the referees, match commissioners, club officials, players, even the state FA officials and everybody that had a role to play in the two games have some explaining to do.
“Although the four clubs and the results have been suspended, we are yet to take the final action as regards this case. The Amateur League has a board and not until they submit their report to the Disciplinary and Organising Committee, there is not much we can do.”
