The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign state of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, slammed the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, over what it described as crude remarks against Ndigbo in Enugu State.
The Sultan had on Monday, while speaking in the state, called on Nigerians to stop using ethnicity and religion to divide the country.
The Sultan, who equally condemned violent conducts by some herdsmen across the country, said the Fulanis should not be tied to such act.
“How do you go your different ways, don’t you read history? Please refer to history books. We have Igbo people everywhere in the country and they are industrious. We have Hausa people who have not lived anywhere else excerpt in Igboland, we have the Yoruba who are also in different parts of the country and contributing their quota,” he had said.
Reacting, however, the freedom fighting group, in a statement in Abakaliki, by its leader, Uchenna Madu, described the northern leader’s comments as a reflection of Hausa-Fulani’s hatred, hypocrisy and wicked minds against the people of Biafra in the country.
According to Madu, “The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra blasts Sultan of Sokoto for his unguarded and insensitive address at Nsukka yesterday when he visited. Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar IV, visits Enugu.
“This expressed feelings and assertion of the Islamic leader shows and proves the high level of hatred, hypocrisy and wicked mind of Hausa-Fulani Islamic fundamentalists in Nigeria against the people of Biafra.
“For the Islamic religious leader in Nigeria to openly admit that Ndigbo are always killed and massacred without provocation in Nigeria because of our industriousness and unique ability to reside in every nooks and crannies of Nigeria doing businesses is terrible.
“The Sultan also defended the Fulani herdsmen, who are foot soldiers of Buhari-led administration in forceful implementation of Islamic agenda of the entire Nigeria claiming that the violent Fulani herdsmen are criminals.
“Since he is defending his kinsmen for their systematic killings of our people, what measure has he taken as a true Nigerian religious leader to curb or stop the excesses of his Fulani herdsmen?”
