Over 1000 members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State led by Senator Muhammed Salami Ohiare, weekend, dumped the ruling party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking at a press conference shortly after the mass exodus with thousands of his supporters, Ohiare said that they had waited for better life to be ushered into the state to no avail, hence they needed to move ahead.
“We have waited too long for better life to be ushered into this country in general and Kogi State in particular, but like an ‘abracadabra’, the more we expect it, the further it is made to elude us” he stressed.
While stating that Kogi State was far behind in terms of infrastructural development, he said, “It is most disheartening that a party, All Nigeria Peoples Party,ANPP, that ruled this state for four years can still point to greater achievements than the one that has been in power all these years”
Ohiare who was the governorship candidate, of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in 2007, lamented that other states that were created the same period with Kogi, are now enjoying better infrastructural development, noting that Kogi people had waited for change endlessly.
On why he decided to dump the ruling PDP for a yet to be registered APC with his supporters, the politician said, “If you are travelling in a vehicle that either breaks down often or too slow to take you to your destination for an important and urgent purpose, the wise thing to do is to disembark from it and take a healthier and faster vehicle”.
He maintained that the expected development could only be attained when good people are in power.
