Masquerade, followers shot dead in Kogi

A Masquerade and three of his followers were yesterday killed in Kogi State.

The incident occurred at Idare district in Okene Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the victims were shot dead by two men on motorcycles during the “Eche-Anee” festival celebrated annually by the people of Kogi Central.

Others at the scene scampered for safety as gun shot echoed.

Reacting, the state government has banned the festival celebration to avoid further crisis.

A terse statement by Kingsley Fanwo, Media Director to Governor Yahaya Bello, warned that, “Any masquerade or masquerades caught parading the street​s​will be arrest​ed​ along with followers and those managing the masquerader​”​.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State

Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, ​has ordered probe of the incident.
