Monaco striker, Anthony Martial, has been released by the French Football Federation (FFF), to travel to England and hold talks with Manchester United ahead of a potential move.
Louis van Gaal is now more desperate to land a new striker, with Wayne Rooney firing blanks again in their league defeat at Swansea on Sunday and Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez joining Bayer Leverkusen.
Martial scored nine goals in 35 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco last season and is now set for a big move to Old Trafford.
A statement from the FFF read: “Anthony Martial was presented Monday at 11:00 at the gathering of the France team at Clairefontaine. He requested from Didier Deschamps permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United.
“Given the exceptional circumstances, the coach has acceded to the request of the player.
“Anthony Martial left Clairefontaine Monday at 12:00. He will return on Tuesday morning.”
Martial joined Monaco from Lyon in 2013 and has played for France at every youth level.
