Former Senate President, Senator David Mark and Senator Tunde Ogbeha have grieved over the death of Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Canada, Chief Ojo Maduekwe as well as foremost writer and former Instructor with the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna, Captain Elechi Amadi.
The duo expressed shock at the demise of the Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, Maduekwe who was very vibrant in recent time, stressing that Nigeria has lost one of the finest and brightest politicians who was a brain box in political engineering over time.
In a statement signed on Thursday by Mark’s media assistant, Paul Mumeh, they held that over the years Maduekwe demonstrated patriotism and meritorious service to the nation.
Mark specifically described Maduekwe as “a bossom friend and the Cicero of our time. His death at this time is devastating especially to the PDP family.
“Maduekwe has been in the forefront among our leaders trying to find solution to the internal crisis in the PDP. He died when his services were most needed to navigate through the murky political water.
“We shall miss Maduekwe’s intellectual prowess and political sagacity. We shall miss his candor. We shall miss his humour. Obviously, Maduekwe has left a huge vacuum.”
Ogbeha, on his part, recalled that Maduekwe was a legal luminary who was the engine room of the making of the PDP Constitutions and manifestos since 1999.
On Captain Elechi Amadi, Senators Mark and Ogbeha lamented the death of their former teacher whom they said mentored them to be successful in their chosen careers.
Elechi Amadi taught Senators Mark, Ogbeha and others at the NDA Regular Course 3, Kaduna between 1967 and 1970.
“Captain Amadi was a great teacher and coach. A strict disciplinarian both in the classroom and on the field of play. He never condoned laziness and sloppiness. On the field, each time we thought we had played our best, Captain will demonstrate to us that had not attained the mastery of footballing.
“I will continue to miss his mentoring,” Ogbeha said.
They noted that Captain Amadi left his positive foot print on the sand of time and enjoined the immediate family to build on the legacies of honesty, hard work and unwavering commitment to the ideals of nationhood which the celebrated Author was known for.
