After signing the condolence register at the lobby of White House, the Senate President told parliamentary correspondents that he was personally touched by the demise of Zannah because of his deep understanding of legislative functions in the last four years. He recalled how committed and passionate the late Senator was to his Borno North Central senatorial district and that he had often times approached him to use his position to intervene on Boko Haram crisis rocking the North East which he tried to get involved personally, even with his opposition status. DAILY POST National Assembly correspondents recalls an exclusive interview the late Senator granted him sometimes last year where he faulted federal government’s insincerity in its fight against Boko Haram. According to him, the federal government was not doing enough while the security agencies involved in the fight against Boko Haram were using the situation as conduit pipe to siphon the tax payer’s money. He did urged the Federal government to allow civilian JTF to use weapons it provided in the fight against the insurgents , promising to return them to government after the war against Boko Haram was successfully prosecuted. Today, the National Assembly held a valedictory session for their departed colleague who many poured encomiums for his fighting spirit while representing his people, even as he was not afraid of visiting his senatorial district in the heat of Boko Haram attacks. Late Senator Ahmad Zannah was first elected as a Senator on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Borno Central Senatorial District, thus defeating the incumbent Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff who contested on the platform of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP). He later defected to the All Progressives Congress.
