Mark mourns Gbenga Ashiru, calls him a diplomat per excellence

Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator David Mark, has lamented the demise of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, declaring that his death has robbed the nation of a fine Diplomat and a patriot.

Mark in a condolence message to the government and people of Ogun State described the late Ashiru as a diplomat per excellence who promoted and indeed implemented Nigeria’s foreign policy across the globe.

He recalled the giant exploits of the deceased in the protection and promotion of Nigeria and Nigerians’ cultural heritage in the international community.

His words, “I feel sad that we lost Ambassador Ashiru . He was a professional and brilliant diplomat. He was in the fore front in the formulation, execution and promotion of our foreign policy. As a foreign Affairs Minister , he was exemplary.”

The Senate President noted that Nigeria would miss Ambassador Ashiru’s robust contributions to national development, especially in refining the nation’s foreign policy and bringing it up to speed with international best practices.

While pointing out that Ambassador Ashiru left his positive foot print on the sands of time, Mark went on to enjoin the federal government and the people of Ogun State, especially the bereaved family to take solace in the fact that the late Ambassador lived an eventful life that is worthy of emulation.
