Senate President, David Mark on Saturday advocated a smooth electoral process that would make the 2015 general elections most credible and acceptable by all parties vying for positions.
According to Mark, the electoral process should be anchored on rule of law and the will of the people instead of resorting to violence or coercion no matter the differences held by politicians.
Addressing members of his constituency in his country home at Otukpo, Benue State, ahead of Saturday’s House of Assembly primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Senate President noted that elections should be guided by rules and acceptable international best practices.
Mark, who cautioned against desperation by political office seekers, reminded them that an election was like a game that must produce a winner and a loser.
In his words, “Whichever side of the divide we may find ourselves, we must rise above sentiments to accept the verdict of the elections as long as the rules are complied with.
“We are all stakeholders in the project Nigeria. Both leaders and the led must therefore work in one accord to make Nigeria a better place. This task demands collective responsibility,” he asserted.
The Senate President went on to express regret over the massacre of worshippers at Friday’s central Mosque in Kano describing the gruesome murder as an act of madness by the perpetrators.
He lamented that those who carried out the attacks had lost their senses as humans and urged all right thinking members of the society to rise up against the terrorists who were threatening the peace and unity of Nigeria.
While urging security operatives against being discouraged by the recalcitrant attitude of the insurgents, Mark called on them to be further strengthened to continue protecting and defending the territorial integrity of the country.
