Senate President, David Mark has called on the federal government to immortalize the branch leaders of Women For Change leaders in Bayelsa State who died in an auto crash on Saturday after they paid a visit to First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.
The Senate President, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, said the women, who were actually members of the organization promoted by the First Lady, died serving the country and should be honoured to that effect.
The statement reads, “The Senate President urged the government of Bayelsa state to immortalize the deceased for their unquantifiable contributions to the development of the state.
“Mark in the condolence message, lamented that the women died in their prime at a time when their productive hands were needed to solve the socio-economic and political problems facing the nation. Mark said the women died in their active services to the nation and should be accorded such honour. He said the women paid the supreme prize and should be remembered as heroines of Bayelsa.”
Mark further sympathized with President Goodluck Jonathan, the victims’ families, the government and people of Bayelsa state over the death of the women. He urged them to accept the incident in good fate.
The women, numbering eleven, died in a fatal car crash on Ahoada axis of East-West road in Rivers State.
