Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Mario Gotze, will miss Saturday’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

The German midfielder tore his hamstring during the semi-final clash against Real Madrid and has been fighting to be fit for the Wembley showdown. However, his current club say he won’t be available for the match against his future employers.

“The final was my big goal and I have fought hard to make it over the past few weeks,” Gotze said in the press release.

“I am unbelievably sorry for not being being able to help the team in this important game. I have full confidence in the team and will of course travel to London to support them on the pitch.”

Jurgen Klopp may also be without defender Mats Hummels, who is also nursing an ankle injury, but remains confident of making it in time for the game.

He told Bild magazine: “Nothing is torn so it is not as bad as first feared. I’m confident I’ll be ready for the final.”
