The All Progressives Congress, APC, has threatened to boycott the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Enugu State if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, refuses to throw the process open.
Chairman of the party in Enugu State, Barr. Ben Nwoye said this during a press briefing where he accused the commission and security agencies of favouring the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State.
This is also as the party heads to the polls without a governorship candidate, a situation Nwoye equally blamed on the INEC.
DAILY POST had reported that the INEC had said the APC had no governorship candidate owing to its alleged failure to comply with a court order.
However, Nwoye, while addressing the media, said the entire system had been schemed against his party, alleging that they were also denied access to the distribution of electoral materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
He said, “all our efforts have been brought to nothing by those who want to steal our democratic rights; what is more unfortunate is that they have collaborated with the key persons within the security agents, especially the police and the INEC.
“We were denied access into the CBN, where the election materials were being sorted, whereas the PDP had multiple agents. They have removed all the result sheets.
“What INEC wants is for APC to appear to have participated in a fraudulent process; but there is no point; there is no point for APC standing. So, I have communicated to the REC.
“It’s not about who loses or who wins, it’s about the process. We know that the process has already been schemed against us; so much has been done to undermine the process.”
Nwoye further lamented that “the same INEC recently went on to publish something in their website, and not allowing the name of our gubernatorial candidate. Systematically, they have excluded APC from contesting by not allowing a name of a candidate.
“Assuming without admitting that APC has no candidate, why are they calling me to come and check? Why are they asking for representative of our governorship candidate? Why would they have the name of Ayogu Eze from our party as the candidate but have refused to publish it?”
