March 9 election: APGA hits Enugu APC over attack on INEC

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, on Thursday chided the All Progressives Congress, APC, over its attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The party had alleged that the Saturday, March 9 elections were being schemed in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

But in a statement by Barr. Ken Ikeh, Director-General, APGA Governorship Campaign Organization 2019, Enugu State, he said the claims by the APC were unfounded.

His statement read:

“It was with utter dismay that the attention of the Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Governorship Candidate of our great Party, Chief Hon. Emma Nwankpa, KSJI, was been drawn to the spurious and baseless media report credited to the factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Ben Nwoye, alleging that the party had “uncovered a plan” by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hand over electoral materials to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

“As one of the major stakeholders who have been deeply committed and involved in all the processes of the elections, APGA Enugu State chapter, wishes to state categorically that the allegation is false, baseless and mischievous.

“We wish to state that our agents actively participated in the inspection and distribution of all the electoral materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Enugu. They duly and formally reported to our party that the exercise was transparent and that no foul play was encountered as mischievously alleged by the APC.

“We, therefore, advise the APC and its members not to undermine the peaceful political atmosphere in Enugu State and the genuine efforts by INEC and the security agencies to prosecute transparent, free, fair and credible governorship and state assembly elections on Saturday.

“Our party has absolute confidence in INEC to conduct credible and transparent elections on Saturday, and will not condone any act of mischief to distract the electoral umpire from actualizing this noble objective.

“We urge the general public to ignore the antics of the APC as it was meant to mislead and misinform unsuspecting Nigerians. We, therefore, call on all our members and teeming supporters to come out en masse on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibility.”
