Marcelo, Benzema speak on Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence after Real Madrid beat Girona

Real Madrid stars, Marcelo and Karim Benzema have spoken about ex-teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence following their 4-1 victory over Girona in Sunday’s La Liga fixture.

Real went behind to Borja Garcia’s 17th minute opener at the Estadi Montilivi.

The Champions League holders fought back to take the lead through two penalties, converted by captain Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema.

Gareth Bale and Benzema sealed the win with two more goals.

Speaking on Ronaldo’s absence, Marcelo and Benzema, however, admitted that they missed the Juventus star, adding that it’s time for the Los Blancos to build a new team without their all-time highest goalscorer.

“[Ronaldo] is the best in the world,” ESPN quoted Marcelo as saying at post-match press conference.

“It’s obvious that you miss playing with him but Bale and Benzema are really good, too.”

On his part, Benzema added, “You can never forget Cristiano.

“He was so important to Real Madrid and scored many goals, and as Marcelo said, is one of the best attackers in the world, but we have to start thinking about a different team with different players.”

Real are now top of the LaLiga table with six points from two games.
