Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has declared that he has plethora of evidence that many of the heads of tertiary institutions lack integrity and sincerity in the course of discharging their obligations.
He stressed that transparency, honesty, sincerity, and equity remained cardinal principles to sustain the sector.
The Minister disclosed this at the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) 2018 policy meeting with all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, held at Bola Babalakin auditorium, Gbongan, Osun State.
“Some of you carry out your duties with full understanding and knowledge that some of your actions cannot stand the test of integrity, as some of the infractions you endorse and approve are irregular.
“We have documentary evidence of some of these irregularities and they include irregular admissions, skewed fees and refusal to adhere to policy decisions”, Adamu said.
He urged all stakeholders to ensure compliance with all Policy Directives in the interest of the Nation’s educational development, adding that violations of these guidelines would not be tolerated as appropriate sanctions would be meted against violators.
The Pro Chancellor of the University of Lagos Dr. Wale Babalakin, in his welcome address said he was motivated by a desire to provide an environment conducive to serious intellectual work.
He maintained that Nigerians would only achieve its full potential when the aggregate of intellectual capacity was developed and harnessed appropriately.
The JAMB’s helmsman, Prof Isaq Oloyede, in his presentation reviewed the improvement on policies and process put in place to ensure a hitch free admissions for the 2018 academic sessions.
He disclosed that there had been an expansion of selling points, mobile money operators, microfinance banks, online payments, POS and ATMS.
He further said that for the first time, exam centres could be monitored in real time from the JAMB headquarters, thereby minimising incidents of fraud.
He also said examinations were now being synchronised to ensure they begin and end at the same time across the country.
