Referee has been announced for Manchester United’s opening game of the 2019/2020 Premier League season against Chelsea.

Referee Anthony Taylor will take charge of the clash at the Old Trafford and the Blues did not have a good record when he was the man in the middle in last season.

The 40-year-old Taylor oversaw three Blues games in the Premier League in 2018/2019 – vs Arsenal, Everton as well as Leicester City on the final day – and the Blues didn’t win any of them.

Chelsea also failed to find the back of the net in the two losses and a draw which were all away from home.

Furthermore, Chelsea fans will have to go all the way back to August 2017 for the last time they won on the road with Taylor as referee.

Overall, the referee from Cheshire has officiated 30 games across all competitions involving the Blues ever since his first in 2012 and that’s yielded 16 victories and eight losses.

Moreover, Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn are the assistant referees, with Lee Mason on fourth official duty at Old Trafford.

VAR will also be in use with Stuart Attwell and Stephen Child undertaking those duties.

And it’s bad news for Frank Lampard as he bid to begin his reign with victory at Old Trafford.
