Manchester United to withdraw contract offer for Ibrahimovic

Manchester United will withdraw their offer to trigger an extra one-year contract for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, after the striker ruptured his knee ligaments in Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Anderlecht.

Sunday Mirror however reports, that the club will offer the 35-year-old their full medical support, in his year-long fight to save his career.

Ibrahimovic made a big impact at Old Trafford since he joined last summer and has scored 28 goals, but it is widely accepted that he has played his last game for the club.

He has now been ruled out until January 2018 at the earliest, as he is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months. But United feel they have a duty of care to oversee his rehabilitation. Ibrahimovic will receive the best possible treatment until his contact expires in the summer.

“Zlatan will be given the club’s support throughout his rehabilitation.

“If that means helping him beyond the final few months of his contract then that will happen,” a source said.
