Manchester United should be embarrassed about playing in Europa League – Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has said that Manchester United, should be embarrassed after they dropped into the Europa League.

The Red Devils will play in the competition for the second time in five years, after they were beaten 3-2 by Wolfsburg in Germany. The defeat means they finished third in Group B, after winning only two of their six games.

Ferdinand, who played in the Europa under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2011/2012 season, told BT Sport: “They’ve been fortunate right the way through [the group stage].

“Fortunate in the other games, fortunate with the own-goal tonight.

“It’s about carving out opportunities and getting your own luck. They haven’t done that often enough tonight and that’s the worrying thing.

“It’s an embarrassment to be in it [the Europa League]. You don’t to come out of your own house.

“You don’t want to walk around Manchester with people looking at you thinking you’re not good enough, questioning you as an individual, questioning you as part of a team that didn’t get through the group stages that you should have on paper.”
