Radamel Falcao could join Manchester United on a permanent basis, after the club’s chief executive Ed Woodward, had discussions with Monaco on Sunday.
The Colombian striker has scored just four times for the Old Trafford outfit, since his big-money loan move from France last summer.
Falcao was drafted into Louis van Gaal’s starting 11 against Chelsea last Saturday, but failed to hit a shot at target.
But United are yet to make a final decision on the former Atletico Madrid player.
“I saw the Manchester United people last Sunday and they have not yet decided if they would exercise the option,” Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said.
“It’s not his best season, but they kept the opportunity to make a decision at the end of the season”, he added.
If Van Gaal decides to make Falcao’s deal permanent, the Red Devils will have to cough out £43.5m for the forward. Monaco are however ready to negotiate on the transfer fee, after Falcao endured a terrible season in England.
Vasilyev added: “We are not in any other negotiations, even if big clubs are interested. The decision is with Manchester, then we will discuss with the player what he wants. I would like to have more visibility.”
