Manchester United have confirmed that David Moyes has left the club.
A short statement released by the club on Tuesday morning read: “Manchester United has announced that David Moyes has left the Club.
“The Club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role.”
Moyes’ dismissal comes after an abject 2-0 loss to his former side Everton on Sunday. It was the Red Devils’ 11th Premier League defeat of the season and made it mathematically impossible for United to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
The defeat also marked the first time United failed to take off any points from their North West rivals – Liverpool, Manchester City and Everton – since the inception of the Premier League.
Ryan Giggs is expected to be temporarily put in charge of the team, ahead of this weekend’s game against Norwich, while United shop around for a third manager in two years.
