An Ebutte Metta Chief Magistrate Court on Monday remanded in prison a 35-year old Nelson Oamen, who stabbed his father to death in Prisons.
In her ruling the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folasade Botoku, ordered that Oamen who was standing trial for murder, be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending when the court receives legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
It was learnt that the 35-year-old’s plea was not taken as the court lacked jurisdiction to prosecute murder cases.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Akinlabi, while testifying before the court said the accused committed the offence on Sept. 18, at about 11.30 a.m. at Abesan Estate, Ipaja, Lagos.
“He claimed that his father refused to give him money to purchase a bus and on the said day he went into his father’s room where he was sleeping and stabbed him with a broken bottle,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folasade Botoku adjourned the case till November 5 pending legal advice from the DPP while ordering the accused to be remanded in prison.
