Man to be hanged for stabbing neighbour to death

A High Court sitting in Abudu, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo state had on Thursday sentenced one Sunday Ilawe to death by hanging for the murder of his neighbour, Blessing Ehigie.

DailyPost gathered that the heinous crime was committed on Oct. 13, 2004 at Egua-Evbu Village, Edo state.

It was learnt that Ilawe who stabbed Ehigie with a knife, had earlier pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of murder.

The trial Judge, Justice Uro Erameh, convicted Ilawe based on the avalanche of evidence presented before him by the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Stella Okojie, against the convict as required by the law.

Justice Erameh found the convict guilty of stabbing Ehigie in the neck and stomach which led to his death.

He also held that the convict was arrested at the scene of the crime while still holding the knife he used in committing the offence.

The Judge emphasised that the convict also made confessional statement to the police, adding that the statement alone was enough to pass a death sentence on him. He said that the defence counsel failed to prove that the convict had mental problem before committing  the murder.
