Man threatens to commit suicide unless Gov. Yari steps down

A young man identified as Somalia Abdullahi Shabege has climbed a radio transmission mast in an attempt to commit suicide.

Shabege has refused to come down from the mast unless the Governor of Zamfara, Abdulhaziz Yari steps down as the Chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, NGF.

Shabege was a political praise singer to the governor during the 2011 general elections.

He stated in a note he left behind that the governor abandoned him after he had promised to support him to boost his trade of tricycle fabrication, Daily Trust reported.

An eyewitness identified as Musa Usman at the scene said Shabege arrived the premises of Kano broadcating corporation’s booster station at Tukuntawa, Kumbotso local government area around 6am on Friday behaving abnormally before he climbed to the pinnacle of the mast.

“The young entrepreneur, who has currently being convinced to come down from the mast, arrived the scene as early as 6am,”‎ he said.

As at the time of this report, the Kano state Fire Service personnel in collaboration with the police are present at the scene convincing the entrepreneur to come down amidst mild drama and crowd.
