Man stabbed to death in Cross River over chicken

A young man identified as Eyo Eyo Nsa has been stabbed to death in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State by suspected members of a cult group identified as King Crackers.

DAILY POST gathered that trouble started when a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counsellorship aspirant, Mr Orok went to the area to declare his intent to contest the election in the ward.

However, when he left and the people started sharing what he brought for refreshment, a fight broke out which led to the death of one of Eyo Nsa.

The deceased was alleged to have struggled for chicken.

“One of the guys was sharing the chicken, Mr. Orok brought and the deceased (Eyo Nsa) didn’t wait for them to get to him, he dipped his hand and took meat which infuriated the people at the gathering and an argument ensued and turned into a fight.

“In the process, the deceased ran into their house and came out with a machete and as he was running towards one of his rivals, he was stabbed on the upper side of his ribs and he fell to the ground, started bleeding profusely but because it was very late there was no vehicle to convey him to the hospital, he bled to death on the spot”, a source said.

But another version alleged that the deceased was a leader in the cult group (King Crackers) and had refused to relinquish the position he was occupying and this infuriated other members who were looking for an opportunity to eliminate him.

“The squabble presented a perfect opportunity for them to extinguish him, since he refused to hand over to another person, the chicken sharing which caused the quarrel was just a smoke screen; the main issue was a leadership position in the cult group, he was part of them, he was killed because he refused to hand over to someone else”, a source who pleaded for anonymity alleged.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations officer, ASP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident, saying that they were trailing the suspect and he would soon be arrested.

She said: “We got information that there was a gathering and during the meeting a fight broke when they were sharing chicken for refreshment and someone was stabbed to death.

“It was the organizer of the meeting that came to incident the matter at the police station and we are trailing the suspect. We are investigating the matter and we are not relenting in making sure the suspect is arrested and charged to court, no one is above the law, he will surely be brought to book,” she stated.

When DAILY POST visited the area, the blood of the deceased littered the scene where the incident took place and the people had deserted their homes for fear of being arrested for questioning.
