Man stabbed to death for making love advances at traditional ruler’s daughter


A 26-year-old plumber, Semiu Sanni, was on Saturday stabbed to death during the yearly Ojude Oba festival in Omoleye area of Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State for making love advances at the town ruler’s daughter.

Trouble was reported to have started when the Oluwo of Ogijo, Chief Mufutau Oduntan, noticed that the deceased who was an alleged cultist made love passes at his daughter, which did not go down well with him.

The traditional ruler was alleged to have warned Sanni to stay far from his daughter or face his wrath.

An argument consequently ensued between both parties which also extended to their friends.

It was learnt that while the Ojude-Oba ceremony was ongoing, the chief met the 26-year-old’s father, Mr Sakurai Sanni, also known as “Arewa’, advising him to warn his son to steer clear his daughter.

While the ceremony was going on, the deceased was attacked and stabbed severally on the neck by some alleged members of a rival cult group.

Following the attack, friends and family members were said to have rushed Sanni to a private hospital where he was rejected but died on the way to Ikorodu General Hospital.

Sanni’s death caused pandemonium in the area as some mob invaded the chief’s residence, setting his two cars, the building and some personal effect ablaze. Not satisfied, the angry mob was said to have returned on Sunday chasing the chief and his family members out and set their property ablaze.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi while confirming the incident said the suspects had gone into hiding, adding that “The DPO has been mandated to fish them out.”
