Man sentenced to six months imprisonment over vandalism in Osun

A 28-year-old man, Segun Oguntade was on Thursday sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Magistrates’ court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State, for vandalising an electric cable.

The convict was said to have been rounded up on August 3, 2018 while vandalising a 500KVA transformer armoured cable at Omo-west area, Ondo road, Ile-Ife.

While the convict pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him, the defence counsel, Mrs. Aigbe intimated the court of the accused person’s intention to withdraw his plea. The charge was read again, and he pleaded guilty as charged.

The Magistrate, M. O. Olatunji noted that the NSCDC Prosecutor/lawyer, have diligently established a case of stealing against the accused person with an overwhelming prima facie evidence and confessional statement.

He then ruled that the accused person should be sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour to serve as deterrent to others.
