An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun State, on Tuesday remanded one Bello Damilare, 24, in prison custody over alleged murder.
Magistrate Habibat Basiru, who did not take the plea of the defendant, said the court had no jurisdiction to try murder cases, NAN reports.
Basiru asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward it to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She adjourned the case till Oct. 29 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 1, 2019 at about 4:40 p.m. at Oke-Isoda area, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant unlawfully killed one Kabiru Olatunji by stabbing him with broken bottle in the stomach.
He added that the offence contravened Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
