A Lagos Magistrate Court, sitting in Ejigbo, has remanded a 33-year-old man, Lucky Matthew In prison custody for allegedly stealing a micro finance bank’s security uniform at night and wore it while claiming to be one of the guards on duty.

Matthew was alleged to have committed the act in Igando area of the state.

The 33-year-old, it was gathered, scaled the fence of Stallion Micro Finance Bank, located in Igando at about 8.00 pm and made away with the bank’s security uniform which he wore while claiming to be a guard.

Luck however ran out on the suspect as two guards on duty, Adams Ibe and Friday Udoh, noticed the presence of Matthew who was not one of the security guards attached to the bank.

Udoh confronted Matthew to know how and where he got the uniform he wore and who employed him.

On noticing that his intention has been uncovered, he allegedly attacked Udoh and Ibeh before he took to his heels.

The alarm raised by the security guards led to Matthew’s arrest and subsequently been handed over to the police at Igando Division.

Matthew, who confessed to the crime, said he scaled through the fence into the bank’s premises and stole the uniform.

According to the police prosecutor, Sgt Babaji Ishaku, the accused was charged with felony and assault under the Criminal Code.

The accused, who pleaded guilty to the crime, stated that he only did it because he wanted to sleep inside the bank on the fateful day.

Barrister Mariam Njoku from Legal Aids Council of Nigeria, prayed the court to change his plea to ‘not guilty’ since the accused stated that he had no intention to commit any crime in the bank.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O. E. Adeyemi, entered not guilty plea while she adjourned the matter till 31 August for hearing.

Adeyemi ordered that the accused be remanded in Kikikiri prison pending the outcome of the hearing
