One Tope Thomas, 32, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody over the alleged defilement of his neighbour’s three-year-old daughter.

Thomas, who resides at No. 4, Mafo Close, Off Abeokuta Road, Ogba area of Lagos was charged on a two-count charge of defilement and causing the breach of peace.

Prosecuting police officer, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the 32-year-old committed the offences on August 28, in his apartment.

Iseghede noted that the suspect lured the victim to the toilet where he unlawfully took advantage of her.

“The victim’s mother, who heard the daughter crying, rushed to the scene and met the accused raping the little girl,’’ the prosecutor said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 137 and 166(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charges were read, Thomas however pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling the Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the 32-year-old be remanded in Kirikiri Prison.

Elias consequently adjourned the case till November 11, for the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s legal advice.
