Man rapes, impregnates 16-year-old girl during deliverance

The Nigerian Police Force, on Wednesday arraigned a 37-year-old man, Joe Pelle, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a teenager during deliverance session.

The accused, a resident of 11, Prince Bayo Street, Igbogbo in Ikorodo area of Lagos State was arraigned for charge bordering rape.

During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu informed the court that Pelle committed the offence in November 2016 at Ikorodu.

According to the prosecutor, the victim’s mother had taken the teenager to Pelle’s residence for deliverance.

Ogu said, “The accused took the victim to a river, bathed her before taking her to a hotel.

“The accused raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she tells anyone of what transpired between them.”

Ogu told the court that after Pelle raped the 16-year-old victim, she was taken to the hospital where she was confirmed pregnant.

The prosecution said the offence was contrary to Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charge was read, the 37-year-old accused pleaded not guilty.

Following his not guilty plea, the Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted Pelle N300,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The Chief Magistrate ordered the case file duplicated and sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPPs, for legal advice.

Consequently, Akanni adjourned the case to April 5.
