Man nabbed by Abia Police Command for selling son to herbalist

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a middle aged palm fruit cutter, for purportedly selling his 14 month old son for N300,000 to a herbalist. George Maduabuchi, who hails from Owerrinta in Isialagwa South council of Abia State, a father of four allegedly connived with one Obinna Erondu, who is now at large to sell the baby. The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila, while parading the culprits along with other criminals said they were arrested when Maduabuchis wife reported to the police his nonchalant attitude towards their sick baby. Though the suspect admitted that he took his son to a herbalist, denied selling the boy. Maduach, said he was given N140, 000 by the herbalist as the baby could not be cured, so he escaped with the money leaving the baby behind. Eberechi, wife of the suspect however countered his explanation saying he sold the baby to the herbalist. On seeing that her husdand returned home without the baby, she demanded an explanation which was not provided satisfactorily. She narrated that while she was crying and her husband consoling her, the polytene bag he was carrying tore and the money inside fell off. On sighting the money, the wife who is heavily pregnant raised the alarm which caught the attention of neighbours, leading to the arrest of the culprit. The neighbour’s called on the Police who came and apprehended him and he led them to the herbalist’s house where the baby was recovered.
