Officers attached to the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a former vigilante leader identified as Uche for allegedly killing his girlfriend over a new born baby.
The incident which happened at Regina Nwankwo Street, GRA, Onitsha, saw Uche shooting his girlfriend to death for refusing to grant him custody of his baby.
Trouble was said to have started when Uche’s demand to have custody of his baby despite not paying the bride price of the deceased, was resisted by her parents.
Uche who was a security guard was said to have shot the lover in the chest after the parents of the girl ordered him to pay the bride price before he could be granted the custody of the baby.
It was gathered that suspect had earlier tried to forcefully take the baby from the deceased but failed, in the process, he took her clothes, those of the baby and set them ablaze before leaving the house.
The suspect on seeing that the first attempt failed, came back again and asked the girl to come for a discussion in the compound, in the cause of their parley, Uche was said to have removed a gun and shot the girl in the chest.
When neighbours came out to ascertain what was happening, they found the girl lying dead at the gate.
The DPO of the Central Police Station, Onitsha, CSP Isa Abubkar, said Uche has been apprehended, adding that the case will be investigated before he is charged to court.
