A 27-year-old man was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly terrorizing and robbing residents of Ogba and Ijaiye with baboon and snake.
The accused, Mohammed Nafiu is standing trial on a five-count charge of conspiracy, breach of public peace and robbery.
The prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu told the court that the suspect committed the offences on March 7 and 17.
Nnamonu said the accused was armed with a grown baboon and a venomous snake while attacking a crowd at Ogba Bus Stop.
He added that Nafiu attacked an eyewitness identified as Joshua Odogwu, and later dispossessed him of N57, 000.
“The obviously terrified victim dropped all he had in his bag along with N57, 000 cash, which the accused collected,’’ he said.
Nnamonu noted that the accused had earlier on March 17 dispossessed a man, identified as Henry Ugwuokoh of the sum of N230, 000.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 166, 294, 295 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
When the charges were read, Nafiu however pleaded not guilty.
While ruling on the case, the Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, consequently granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum while adjourning the case till June 18 for trial.
