A 35-year-old businessman, Tizhe Ayuba, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly inserting his fingers into the private part of a six-year-old girl.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Peace Chukwudi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 8, at 5:00pm, at Aro Community, Lekki, Lagos.
She said that the accused unlawfully defiled the girl by fingering her private part.
The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 provides life imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr R. O. Davies, remanded the accused in Ikoyi Prison and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Davis adjourned the case until June 13 pending the DPP’s advice.
