The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that a 41-year-old man, Francis Uzo, committed suicide after allegedly hacking his wife, Ozoemena, to death over unresolved issues.
The incident happened on November 15 at their residence at Nchantancha-Nike, in Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the state police spokesperson, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, told newsmen that, “On the fateful day, at about 12 noon, Okonkwo allegedly pounced on his wife, over a yet-to-be established issue and inflicted several machete cuts on her.
“The woman lost several pints of blood before she was taken to hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“When the police arrived at the residence of the couple to arrest the husband, his lifeless body was found on the floor and he was rushed to the Annunciation Hospital, Emene for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival,” the PPRO said, adding that the homicide department of the police has commenced investigation into the unfortunate incident.
“The remains of the husband and his wife have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.”
