A 40-year-old man, Friday James was today granted bail in the sum of N500,000 by a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl .
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu,in her judgement,ordered the accused to provide two sureties in like sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused while the other must be a civil servant not below GL-14.
“The accused must deposit N100, 000 to the chief registrar’s account,” she added
James, a resident of No. 15B, Onakoye Str., Sari-Iganmu, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement.
The Prosecutor, Anthonia Osanyade, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Sari-Iganmu, Lagos, at about 6.00pm, on August 20.
Osanyade said the accused sent the girl on an errand to buy him pure water.
“On her arrival, James dragged her into his room and forcefully had sex with her,’’ she said.
The offence is said to have contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The case was adjourned till September 9 for mention.
