Man docked for fraud in Ogun


A 38-year-old man, Adewale Adekunle was on Wednesday brought before an Ota Magistrate Court sitting in Ogun for defrauding one Atewologun Segun to the tune of N597,000.

Adekunle, who resides at No.23 Aderanti Street, Iyana Iyesi, in Ota area of the State is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretense and defrauding.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt Itaita Ebibomino, the accused committed the offence on April 30 at about 11.30 a.m. along Abeokuta Expressway, Ota.

Ebibomino told the court that Adekunle collected the sum of N597,000 under false pretence to supply Nylon to one Atewologun Segun but defaulted in the agreement.

He said the offence contravened sections 390(9) and 421 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1 of the Revised Law of Ogun State,2006.

When the charges were read, the accused however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Funke Odubanjo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that sureties must swear an affidavit and provide evidence of tax clearance in the last one year.

Odubanjo consequently adjourned the case till July 8 for hearing.
