Man docked for defrauding accommodation seeker of N160,000 in Ogun


A 47-year-old man, Dada Olalekan, who allegedly defrauded an accommodation seeker of N160,000, on Monday faced trial at an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

Olalekan, who resides at No.7, Ifelodun St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is being tried for a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.

The prosecution said the accused allegedly collected N160,000 from a woman, Titilayo Adebayo, with a promise to get her an apartment.

According to Prosecutor Abdulkareem Mustapha, the accused committed the offences between May and June at Iyana- Iyesi, Ota.

“The accused collected the money (N160, 000) from the complainant (Titilayo Adebayo) to get her accommodation but failed to do so.

“The accused also failed to refund the money.’’

Mustapha noted that the offences contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun State, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate A.O. Abimbola granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in the like sum.

Abimbola said the surety, who should be a worker and resident within the court’s jurisdiction, should produce one year tax clearance.

In addition, the surety should submit his recent passport photograph to the court.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 9 for hearing.
