A man identified as Samson Ogunbanjo, 28, was on Tuesday docked at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting and raping a woman.
The accused, who did not disclose his address in court, is facing a five-count charge, bordering on rape, assault and causing breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed on November 4, 2015 at 42, Odunibakun St., Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos.
Ogu said the accused called the victim, a 22-year-old lady, on phone and told her to meet him in his friend’s house for a business talk.
“The victim who is jobless thought the accused had helped her to secure a job and so she went there.
“On getting there, the accused shut the door at her, beat her mercilessly and raped her. “
The prosecutor said that though the victim screamed to alert neighbours about her plight, there was no one at home to rescue her.
Ogu also said that the accused ran away after the incident and all efforts to locate his whereabouts were futile.
“The accused was sighted yesterday by one of his friends who called the police on patrol to apprehend him, “ Ogu said.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 166(d), 168(1), 259(1), 261(1) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till March 9 for mention.
