Man docked for allegedly destroying bail bond in Osun

A 46-year-old man, Salami Akeem, was on Monday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged breach of public peace, and malicious damage.

Akeem is facing a two count- charge of breach of public peace and malicious damage.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladoye Joshua, told the court that the accused committed the offense on Nov.14, 2016 at about 12:00pm, at Dugbe area, Osogbo.

Joshua said the accused conducted himself in a manner which led to uproar within the domain of his environ when he destroyed a bail bond to prevent it from being used.

He said the bail bond bears the accused name knowing fully his name would be used as evidence in a case of malicious damage.

He said the offense contravened sections 249(d) and 123 of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11 laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offense against him.

Counsel to the accused,Mr Kazeem Badmus, prayed the Magistrate to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in the like sum.

Aluko said the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction with evidence of tax payment and two passport sized photographs, attached with an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned to March.14 for hearing.
