A 35-year-old man, Nuhu Abubakar, is currently being detained the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kaduna State Command for selling a substance, popularly known as “soak and die.”

Abubakar was said to have been arrested while in possession of a 25 litre gallon of the soak and die.

He was paraded alongside other 17 suspects who were arrested for various crimes, ranging from drug addicts to drug dealers.

Speaking to newsmen while parading the suspects at the NDLEA premises in Kaduna, the State Commander, Mr. Samuel Azige, said the suspects were arrested in various spots when his men carried out a raid.

Azige said about 42 kilograms of cannabin’s sativa, 41 psychotropic substances, 20.3 litres of cough syrup, among others, were seized.

According to him, “eighteen suspected drug dealers, abusers and distributors have been arrested and detained by the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency, Kaduna State Command.

“The Agency raided Warri streets, Kakuri, Black streets in Sabo Tash in Kaduna South, Kawo and some parts of Rigasa in Kaduna North, which enabled them to arrest and confiscate such substances.

“Also about forty-two kilograms of cannabis sativa, forty-one psychotropic substances, twenty-point-three litres of cough syrup, and twenty-five litres of succodie were seized and recovered during the operation.

“Most of the cannabis seized were concealed in a latest and modern way. When you see it, nobody would know that it is cannabis sativa. In fact, you will think it is souvenir just wrapped to give to somebody as gift. Because it won’t smell and there is no need for you to suspect that drug has been concealed inside it. They are devising means everyday to be ahead of the security agencies,” he said.

The State Commander, however, said that the arrested suspects were now under investigation and that those that were found guilty would be charged to the Court.

Nuhu Abubakar, who resides in Ungwan Sunusi but transports the soak and die to the Market area, when interviewed, said:

“I was arrested and brought here because of the business of “soak and die”. I only sell it but I don’t drink it. Common cigarette, I’ve never smoked in my life. I don’t sell it (soak and die) to drug addicts but those hawking bottled medicine.

“I’m appealing for forgiveness as this will be the first and last time I will do the business,” he stated.
