Man butchers wife to ‘get rid of evil in her’

A 43-year-old man, identified as Kenneth Dale Wakefield, who was arraigned in an Arizona court yesterday for decapitating his wife and her two dogs in Phoenix, said he carried out the act because he wanted to get rid of the evil in her.

The prosecutor told the court that the suspect, who committed the offence on July 25, was under the influence of marijuana.

According to the prosecutor, Wakefield, has a history of mental illness and was booked into a Maricopa County jail on August 1 on a one-count charge of first degree murder and two counts of animal cruelty upon his release from a local hospital.

He further added that the suspect was held on a two million dollars bond and was expected to appear in court for a status conference on August 7.

Police told the court that Wakefield, during an interrogation, stated that he stabbed his 49-year-old wife, Trina Heisch, severally before decapitating her, adding that he killed the dogs by cutting their heads off.

The police noted in a probable cause statement filed in Maricopa County Superior Court that the 43-year-old suspect said he was trying to get rid of the evil from Trina.

It was gathered that a neighbour, who saw the blood splattered wall, alerted the police who immediately stormed his apartment only to discover that he had severed the deceased left arm at the elbow and gouged out one of her eyes and a headless Heisch was discovered in a bedroom closet along with the two dogs.

The police disclosed that large amounts of blood were spread across the floors, cabinets and walls of the scene of the murder while several bloody knives were recovered.

However, investigators disclosed that both Wakefield and his wife have histories of mental illness, domestic violence and drug abuse.
