The corpse of a young man, believed to be in his early 20s was on Monday morning, reportedly found badly butchered and dumped in a waste bin at Edgerly Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. This attracted an unprecedented crowd of people who thronged the place to witness the bizarre scene.
Passers-by, who were said to have recognized the face of the dismembered body of the youth, removed it to Edibe-Edibe Road where his parents reside.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Hogan Bassey, told National Accord that he was yet to be briefed about the killing, and could therefore not comment.
Some relatives of the deceased who spoke on the incident, narrated that at about 8 pm on Sunday, the deceased whose name was given simply as Etebong was with some of his friends near his home when he received a call allegedly from his girlfriend to come over.
A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity told the newspaper that Etebong called later in the night asking if power had been restored to the area, but when he was told there was no power, he said he would not return till the following morning.
One of his friends who identified himself as Samuel Effiong, said Etebong was very popular in the neighborhood.
According to him, “Eteobong was with us when we were drinking.
“Later, he received a call and said it was his girlfriend that called, inviting him over to her house.”
Meanwhile, close sources alleged that it could be the case of rival cult group plotting against him but if however it is a clash between rival cult groups, there would be a reprisal attack soonest in the area.
Etebong’s mother allegedly fainted when she saw the dismembered body of her son.
His friends, neighbours and sympathizers reportedly thronged the deceased home to sympathize with the family.
