Man bags Six months jail term over alleged forged signature in Warri

A Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, today sentenced a money lender, Mr. John Ugboruhioba to six-months imprisonment for allegedly forging the document of a Mercedes Benz car belonging to one Mrs. Vivian Ezenwenyi.

The accused was sentenced today, Tuesday November 22.

The court presided over by Magistrate Grade 1, E.W. Sowho stated that the sentence is with an option of forty-thousand naira fine.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Ejiro Ololo told the court that the offence was punishable under Section 467 of the Criminal Code Laws of Delta State.

The Prosecutor claimed that the complainant borrowed N300,000 from the accused and presented her land document and cars as collateral.

According to the Prosecutor, the complainant refunded the money with the agreed interest by both parties.

She said, the accused, however, refused to release the car to the complainant upon payment of the borrowed money giving flimsy excuses, and pointing out that the car was later discovered to have been sold.

“The accused forged the signature of the complainant and sold the car to a lecturer in a college of education.”

“The matter was taken to Alagbon Police Division to confirm the fingerprint and signature was discovered to be forged.”
