A Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, has sentenced one Odinaka Ohaegbulem to seven years imprisonment for carrying out security fraud.
The convict was arraigned before the Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 14-count charge of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and obtaining money under false pretense.
In a release by Wilson Uwujaren, the Head Media and Publicity of EFCC, the Commission noted that the convict alongside three other members of his gang were dragged before Justice F. Olubanjo on May 5, 2014, adding that the group usually steals investors’ dividend warrants, which they sell to Ohaegbulem for clearing.
The EFCC spokesman said, “All the accused had pleaded not guilty but in the course of trial, Ohaegbulem changed the plea and offered to return the sum of N1.4million found in his account to his victim.
“He was consequently convicted and ordered to refund to his victim money worth N1.4m.”
Justice Olubanjo however adjourned hearing on the case of the other three suspects till May 27, 2015.
