One Sani Isa, 25, also known as Sani Dogo of Zarena village in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the State High Court for raping a 9- year-old.
Justice Ubali Ahmad Taura, while delivering the verdict said the convict admitted to committing the offence with a nine-year-old girl last year at Zarena village.
The judge said the offence is contrary to section 282 (1)of the penal code.
Taura said the five witnesses who testified before the court confirmed that the convict raped the under-aged girl and as such, Sani Dogo was convicted in accordance with section 283 of the penal court.
A member of the victim who pleaded anonymity said he was happy with the verdict, adding that if rapists are convicted, cases of rape would reduce.
