Man bags 12-month imprisonment for stealing rice in Lagos

An Ejigbo Magistrate court has sentenced one Yusuf Suleiman to one year imprisonment for allegedly breaking a shop at 19, Peter Agha street, Oke-Afa, Ejigbo Lagos State, and stealing eight bags of rice valued at N125,000.00, four cartoons of Indomie noodles valued at N8,000 and one 3.4kva generator valued at N75,000 totaling N216,000.00 which belonged to one Kelvin Osokan of 14, New Life Baptist Church Street, Oke-Afa Ejigbo.

It was said that Osokan and his wife, both food stuff sellers, had locked their shop with padlocks after the day sales when the suspect with two others now at large came to break the padlocks and stole goods from the shop, which they sold to one Tunde, who was staying at Alaska area of Mushin, Idi-Oro.

The Prosecutor, ASP Kenneth Asibor, told the court that when Osokan got to his shop the following day, he discovered his shop had been burgled and he reported the case to the police.

He said the next day, a man who was identified as Yusuf Suleiman was caught stealing Techno phone K9 valued at N36,000 from neighbouring shop of one Mr. Andrew Anom.

According to Asibor, on his arrest, the suspect confessed that he and two others were responsible for stealing the goods in Mr. Osokan’s shop, adding that they always stole in the area and that they usually sold their stolen goods to one Tunde in Mushin.

He said, “Upon his confession, Suleiman was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the presiding Magistrate Mr. T. O. Shomade, while the police were hunting for the other suspects and the said Tunde.”
