Man axed step-mother to death on New Year day in Enugu

Tragedy struck in Umuenem, Ezinesi-Oduma community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State on New Year day after one Benedicta Anyim, was hacked to death by her step son identified as Friday Anyim while she was trying to settle a fight between the latter and his sister.

Trouble started on New Year day when Anyim, allegedly engaged his elder sister, Abigail Anyim, in an argument over the sale of a water tank which he wanted to sell so as to raise money to procure a commercial motorcycle.

It was learnt that Anyim allegedly took hold of an axe and threw it at his elder sister in a bid to deal a devastating injury on her, but it hit the deceased who was trying to intervene in the fight.

On seeing what happened, Anyim was said to have fled the scene while his step mother was left sprawling on the floor as a result of the attack.

The tragedy was confirmed by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu who said investigation into the matter had commenced.
