Man arrested for murder, snatching lawyer’s car in Delta


Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have apprehended a 33-year-old Festus Okenedu over the murder of one Barrister Emmanuel Egwatu,36, who was killed by unknown persons along Eziokpor road Obiaruku while waiting for a mechanic.

The 33-year-old was nabbed following a distress call to the police detective by an auto mobile electrician in Obiaruku who informed them that two young men had called him to fix a faulty army green colour Toyota Camry car at a lonely spot along Obiaruku/Utagba-Uno road, close to Ebedei village.

According to the detectives, the mechanic said that the two men who could not immediately pay for his services gave him a mobile phone to hold as a guarantee, promising to pay up later and collect their phone back.

Following the tipoff, the detectives went to the area and Okenedu was arrested when he came back to collect the handset from the electrician. His accomplice however escaped.

The arrest was confirmed by the State Police Public Relation Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Celestina Kalu.

Kalu disclosed that the police recovered one black bag containing one laptop, some documents, bible and Christian tracts from the suspect.

The PPRO further stated that information obtained from the laptop revealed that the recovered laptop belonged to Egwatu who was killed the previous night by unknown persons.

Kalu averred that Okenedu is currently assisting the police with its investigation while effort is ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect.
